What is a datacenter IP address?

A datacenter IP belongs to a cloud or hosting provider rather than a home or mobile network. Signups from them are often automated or behind a VPN.

A datacenter IP (or hosting IP) is an address owned by a cloud or hosting company, such as AWS, Google Cloud, DigitalOcean or OVH, rather than by a broadband or mobile provider.

Who uses them

  • Servers, scripts and bots.
  • Commercial VPN services, whose exit servers run in datacenters.
  • Proxies and scrapers.
  • Occasionally legitimate integrations calling your API from a server.

Real people browsing from home or a phone almost never have one. Veqen flags them with datacenter_ip (impact 45-55): enough to ask for verification, not enough to block on its own.
